Location

Lappeenranta, Finland

Organisation

City of Lappeenranta youth services

Target group

10-17-year-olds

Goals

To learn to communicate without a common language, to listen to others while concentrating on the task at hand, dealing with pressure.

Development

We saw a video of Spaceteam and decided to try it out at a youth centre as a casual pastime. We still use it on occasion when suitable players appear. We also use it as a work community activity.

Activity

We whip out our smartphones when the opportunity for Spaceteam arises, invite players and off we go.

Resources

One smartphone or tablet per player. Everyone has to have the same OS and be connected to the same wi-fi.

Feedback

Easy but hard, hysterical, have to think on your feet.

Evaluation

We’ve tried it on different age groups and shared experiences on WhatsApp.

Benefits

A non-formal educational practice on communication, working under pressure, guiding others, listening to others, respecting the collective effort.
